Sculptor Tom Meier writes:
For some years I’ve generally made eyes on even very small figures with a pupil and iris instead of just a ball. I think it gives them more character, but I have to admit it's hard to paint (a coat of primer alone being pretty thick on this scale). Casting can be dodgy as well - no-lead alloys tend to be grainy if not cared for properly, obscuring detail at this level. I’ve had a couple of people tell me they prefer a plain ball eye, and I was wondering what your readers think.
By way of illustration, Tom provides this scan of some elf heads in 28mm.
So - how do you prefer eyes to be sculpted? |
