In the Letters column of Slingshot magazine, Phil Barker describes Field of Glory as: ...a rule set designed by a small clique as a stylised competition game using toy soldiers, rather than as a game in which players complete by demonstrating the abilities of a real life general in a real world in which men get tired, horses get hungry, the sun and moon rise and set, and weather changes with the climate and seasons, armies get disorganised and players feel the excitement of a real battle.
