Scale being a relative term, what wargamers mean is 'nominal size of a miniature'

I see a lot of posts on TMP asking if a certain ruleset will work with a certain figure size.

I, and the groups I've belonged to over the years, have never found a problem adopting our chosen rules to any particular size of figure – I've played WRG Ancients with 2mm, 15mm and 25mm, an awful lot of Napoleonics rules in 15mm, and, recently, SYW in 6mm using M&R. All worked perfectly.

Are we doing it wrong?
