Writing in Ancient Warfare magazine, Ruben Post concludes that what made the Cretan mercenary archers so famous was their versatility: ...though their archery was perhaps lackluster, their ability to at turns fight in close quarter, competing with heavy armed opponents, and skirmish made them unique. When their famous affinity for ambuscade is considered as well, it becomes obvious why Cretan mercenaries were so highly valued. Do you agree with this assessment? |
