The new Bretonnian rules for WHFB make a change in the Lance formation. Formerly, this was a triangular unit of knights.

Old-style lance formation

However, according to the game designers, "In a game of squares and rectangles, triangles just do not work." Therefore, the new Lance is arranged in ranks of three.
