If you look at the period of the early ironclad, not just the ACW, there are so many fascinating combination of ships around the world that the temptation to create imaginary scenarios to try them out is pretty strong. I was in a group that did imaginary wars with 1880s period ships, and there was a lot of fun to be had. |

A recent issue of Miniature Wargames magazine included Dire Straits Off Savannah, a scenario concerning a Union raid against blockade-runners in the harbor. The author said that the scenario "...was all mine - not based on anything historical just something I thought of." For your ACW-era naval wargames, do you prefer to play strictly historical scenarios, or do you enjoy fictional "what if?" scenarios? |
