I'd rate him a 5, marginal, but I'm a Yank. For WW I set-piece type battles, he would probably rate higher. However, that ended a couple of decades prior to WW II. I think Hitler had as much involvement in the defeat of Rommel as Monty did, especially in North Africa. There is no comparison to Monty, and say..... Patton. Too bad he died so soon after the war ended. I would have liked to have read about his exploits in teaming up with the Jerries to defeat the Soviets. The cold war would have been much shorter. Hope I haven't started too much of a rift in our alliance! |
