Guess it depends on who I am playing with and the period. I prefer more "simulation" in those periods "I" have done more research in than those I haven't. (A sort of "ignorance is bliss" approach?) "Fun" is subjective. One can have as much fun blowing away Tiger tanks with Matildas as with trying to deal with supply shortages while defending a town. It's just "fun" at a different level. There are those that see historicals as "the game of the week" and many do not even crack open a book. For them, it's the moving of metal figures, rolling dice and the subject matter does not really matter. Our hobby exists on many levels. It's just as ignorant to trash the "roll a 6 and he's dead , Jim" crowd as it is to trash the "Simulationists". Such internal line-drawing stratification has seen the demise of the IPMS and many game clubs. (The IPMS used to welcome in all levels of modellers and allow them chances at winning recognition. Now days, if you don't spend at least double the kit cost in "after market" items, you don't stand a chance winning!) There is definately room in the hobby for all levels of seeking enjoyment in our hobby! Lets don't divide it any further by promoting some of the attitudes posted here! By all means, point out those things you enjoy, but please don't act like kids by trying to insult those that hold different views than yours. If you do, you will find the ranks thinning even more from many that have better things to do! I could never understand why so many folks put so many hurdles in the way that keeps folks away from the game tables. Tom Dye |

For this poll, let's define "simulationist" as someone whose primary interest is historically accurate wargaming, and a "gamer" as someone who is primarily interested in a good game. How much of a simulationist are you, and how much gamer? |
