In Miniature Wargames issue 293, Jim Webster writes about warfare in Greece, 450 BC to 350 BC:

It could be thought that this era of warfare was boring; there were only the following troop types.
  • Hoplites
  • Cavalry
  • Light Infantry
  • Peltasts
  • Warships
Personally, I find the limited choice fascinating, in that it means both sides are forced to fight with the same weapons so victory doesn't go to someone who finds a hidden super-trooper.
