I have US & German WW2 figs (VFM) because I liked the look of them anyway. I also have about 1500pts in a Mycenaean army (12 chariots) – I could slit this into 2 separate armies and have them fight each other. Same as a Samurai army I'm currently working on. Luckily these two types of armies are known to have fought each other in 'civil' or inter-'culture' wars. So – no problem making both of these armies as large as I can, as they can be split into two or more separate ones.

I think some of us have went about things wrong. Sometimes trying 28nmm, then 15mm, etc. Whatever the other guys are playing...

That's wrong and here's a simple solution.

Choose the size that works for you, then get both sides to fight. The guy with the huge 15mm Naps army of French can't find an opponent. If he had less troops of French and instead French and Russians for example, he would be playing.

Gamers will not turn down a game if all they gave to do is play. Then if they like it, they can buy their own figures.

Buy both sides, it works!
