In Saga Newsletter #103, an anonymous author muses on the nature of history: Frederick the Great is considered by many historians to be a great military commander. If we reviewed his win/loss statistics like modern sporting analysis, then this is less apparent. How many of us would pick Frederick for our team? Napoleon considered him a great commander, but is his perception satisfactory? Napoleon marched his Great Army into Russia and left most of it there. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best), how do you rate Frederick the Great as a military commander? |
