Hello all:

I'm trying to apply Company B decals (US 101st Abn Div Screamin' Eagle patches) to some 28mm figs – having trouble with the decals conforming to the folds/creases in the sleeves. I know there's a product for something like this (MicoSol?).

Before I head out and brave Pacific NW Winter road conditions (& drivers) to find a bottle – would anyone know if there's an alternative product(preferably a common household item) – I just tried some Rubbing (ethyl) Alcohol on one, but didn't really notice if it 'softened' the decal any.

Thanks for any help, Dean

Mr Mark Softer, from Gunze Sangyo, works wonders. Solva Set is also good.

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought – after searching on the www, too – looks like I have to head out for on a roadtrip. v/r, Dean

I have heard that you can use vinegar – but I must confirm that I have never used it.

So proceed with caution!

Any one else seen or heard of this?

You can make a solution to soften the decal before applying it to the model: add a tablespoon of white vinegar to a cup of water, and use that to soak your decals. This is similar to Micro-Scale's Micro-Set.

But to get the film to "lie down" once iy's applied, you need one of the commercial profucts already mentioned. I prefer Micro-Sol.

Tony & Allen:

Thanks for the info! If the hobbystore doesn't carry Micro-Sol, I'll try the vinegar. Regards, Dean

I've used microsol and solvaset and both work pretty well as long as the decals aren't too dried out.

I use Micro Sol all the time, and certainly recommend it for use with my decals.

Just got back from the store – bought the one bottle of Micro Sol they had – the guy didn't even know what it was for. Anyway, it's working great. I'm only using water to soak the decal first; mainly because my wife isn't home & I couldn't find the bottle of vinegar. Thanks for all of your posts. Really helped. Dean

Testors also made a brand. I've had good response from all those mentioned.

I can agree with Dom, I use Micro Sol and Micro set with his decals and they work like a charm.
