Questions about the Monolith/Graven Images/Cliffhanger Apes

link

Who has obtained these figures?

They appear on a page with a heading that says that the Cliffhanger collection is made of figures 36mm-40mm.

Are they really that big?

Thanks.

If I order all three packs, I will have a General, a Sargeant and an Orangutan, together with 9 Gorillas:

Yet, if they are too big to mix with Copplestone Castings cavemen and others, I just don't know.

Hey Cacique. Ever thought of joining:

In short, yes they ARE that big.

Graven Images range of figures are mostly 40mm (I think the exception is the Border Rievers)

They definately will not go with the Copplestone Cavemen. However, they are extremely popular, and so I'm sure Jim will be expanding this part of the range soon – he is one of the most prolific sculptors I know of at the moment, and is producing several figures a week for various ranges.

BTW, they are worth getting. I haven't got them (yet) but I saw them at Partisan last year – really nice.

Cacique – there is also a Mounted General not on the website, but pictured in the Cliff-Hanger folder on the photos page of the yahoo group:

Have not tried the planet of the Apes, but the Flash Gordon Figures are 42mm to top of head and are heafty figures.

PS. But great fun to paint!

If I don't get my Griffin Greys soon, I think I will go APE:

BTW, am I the only one who feels that way?

I have my collection of Griffin Greys going on eBay this weekend – I'm shifting to cyberzombies.

Dentatus,

Do you have a link?

Cacique,

This is slightly off topic but thanks for those links. That redone planet of the apes story had me laughing so hard my office mates started getting nervous.

That link is just too weird.

To go with the Apes – well up against them, there are the new Graven Images Prehistoric Europe figures – Neolothic and Bronze Age – first pictures can be seen on the yahoo group – link on my previous posting!

I have about 40 of them and they are all great!

Darclegion,

So what large human figures are you using for them?

Or are you just having the apes tower over the humans (which wouldn't be a bad thing)?

So, they are way too big to fit with my Eureka Apes?

Thanks,

John

Cacique Caribe03 Sep 2009 11:01 p.m. PST

John,

Seems that way. Around 40mm for the Cliffhanger apes, vs the 25mm or so of the Eureka ones.

Cacique Caribe,
As far as humans go, for 40mm, keep in mind, I am not wargaming the movie, but rather my own idea of a game for POTA. I am using the Halo clix, figures, which are 40mm as well. They match in size, although the Halo figs are much less bulky, but that is fine. I only use the Halo Spartans with guns, no energy weapons, etc. I have rebased them all and removed the silly halo clix base, and all minis including the apes have 30mm round bases.
Kinda a Alien invasion of earth, after mankind has destroyed each other, and apes rule the earth, etc….on a nuclear devastated planet. I think of scenarios as I go. A mix between Battlefield Earth and POTA…without Poison Gas.
You can see them here on my page, under, my wargame collection, in my photo files, at
myspace.com/sireaoden

I have a size comparison, with the Eureka ones (25mm), and the Halo (40mm), and AT-43 (28mm) with a Cliffhanger 40mm on foot, etc.

John,
I have both the Eureka and Cliffhanger apes, and the Eureka apes are true 25mm, not 28mm, and are small. The Cliffhanger apes are about 37mm tall.
The mounted ones, the horses are a little under scale, in my opinion. I use Irregular 42mm Horses with the mounted Apes.
The apes are very well detailed, and are a well worth the money. I use the foot soldiers for cavalry, and just cut thier bases off, and use Irregular 42mm horses for them. Much cheaper that way.
3 Cavalry cost about $75. USD By using Irregular horses and the Ape Infantry foot as riders , 3 cavalry cost about $38. USD
That is including the price + shipping costs to the US. Im not a big fan of the Cliffhanger Horse that is used for the Mounted apes, I think they are a little too small, (that just my opinion) The Irregular 40mm horses are very well detailed, and cheap….amazingly. And they look good with the apes as well. No pics yet on the conversion, but I will take one and post it, in a few days.

Cheers,
tom

My army now is 36 Infanry, and 24 Mounted Cavalry.
I plan on increasing the Cavalry over the next few years, my idea is to have about 72 Mounted and 60 foot.

Im still trying to figure out what I can do for artillery, I may have to make them, or find something, that makes since for their use.

Hi Tom. I spent some time at your site but wasn't able to find any way to get to your pics. Can you post a direct link? The site seemed difficult to find things on.

Thanks,

John
