I have completed a three squadron Swedish brigade for the 1630's so for those who wanted to see the finished unit my blog at: link |

While they don't have much individual definition, I wonder if this isn't more nearly the way their commanders and political leadership thought of the units than if you had opted to do this in 28mm. This is a lot like the block prints of massed troops that were used at this time to illustrate battles, where the troops are busy in the background while the general or king is in the foreground on a rearing horse. I think it is more the battlefield view commanders had. Blocks of troops moving around rather than individuals. I know from ECW re-enactment you quickly realise that the weapon system is the musket block, the pike block etc. The individual soldiers are just the delivery mechanism. So you think in terms of manoeuvre groups. At battalia level junior officers and NCOs are making sure the system is ready to do it's job when it gets where it needs to be, the CO navigates the unit to that place and decides on formations. The general simply says go there and destroy that! These small scale units focus on that level and cover tactics of an army while 28mm figures lean to the modelling and diorama end of our hobby. |

Those look way better than they have any right to! Well done, and a very clever idea. |

They look even better with the flags on the pike blocks. I must put a picture up on the blog of them with flags flying. |
