"Hi-Point Firearms was founded in 1993 behind the simple, noble precept that no one should be excluded from the right to defend themselves for financial reasons. The company has been producing spartan but functional pistols ever since—with a family of pistol-caliber carbines (PCCs) joining the lineup in 1996—that basically anyone can afford. Over time, the manufacturer has expanded its offerings to include more and more pistol-cartridge chamberings, most recently adding .380 ACP and 10 mm Auto to the mix in 2016 and 2018, respectively. That has resulted in a modern catalog that now covers the majority of today's most popular pistol chamberings…"

Trouble is, I can just about see some near-future force issuing these things to its troops. No idea why it's not known to have happened already; the supply of 75 year old AK-47s has to run out sometime. If Hi-point bothered to bid they'd most likely be the lowest bidder!

There's still plenty of AKs being cranked out.

@79thPA
They're not just giving them away though, are they?
And I'm sure they're still more expensive.

I used to own a Hi-Point .45 pistol, and my shooting buddy has one of the 9mm carbines. These are not military grade weapons and could never replace an AK. An M1 carbine is a superior semi-auto weapon to a Hi-Point carbine.

Everything about my Hi-Point felt cheap, which was appropriate because I paid less than $200 USD for it in 2006. My buddy's carbine was even worse. The single-stack magazines mean that your combat load would be extremely limited, and the straight blowback system is unreliable and quickly fouls after a relatively small number of rounds. His carbine misfed a number of times, although it never suffered a stovepipe or other more serious malfunction. This was good, because field-stripping the carbine was incredibly difficult. The .45 pistol was easier to break down and clean, but I wouldn't want to do it in the field.

Overall, cheap firearms for cheap prices, which are good for the casual plinker but not self-defense, law enforcement, or military use.
