…until the battery in your smartphone dies… ;-)

To be honest this looks like taking a sledhe hammer to crack an egg and missing.

If you were really bothered a lazer pointer pointuing down a stick onto a mirror and then along the ground would be much better , a smaller footprint than even a periscope. Easy to design and 3 D print, not bothered personally its never been a big issue with us. The game counts not range paranoia.

Its noticeable the terrain shoiwn is flat, literally. Getting a phone down on one of my tables would do more damage than good, phones are not small. The old periscope would have a smaller footprint to maneouvre and be far cheaper and no battery to run out.

The range finder issue is somewhat dubious if you are paranoid about distance. Would it be to the nearest point, Guns on tanks nowadays are along way froim the center of the vehicle. Turning the turret could alter the range by millimeters.

I have no objection to the system but to me its not addressing a problem I have felt the need to find a solution for.

I posted this then it occoured to me, somthing like a dentist's mirrort with a lazer pointer strapped onto it mat be a perfect solution for those that feel the need.

Use a grid if it's an issue for you.

A solution in search of a problem?

Says it will make for a more approachable game. I guess they haven't seen me with new technology😂

Definitely a solution in search of a problem!

Any game with a grid does this far more simply

This also ignores the fact that most miniature figures are too tall as compared to the ground scale. We often are measuring base to base as most figures would be like giants based on the ground scale used. Depends on your flavor of game, but I am in agreement with many so far, that this did not really seem like a problem that needed a solution.

Years ago, I found a laser pointer that emits a red HeNe line. I shine it on the tabletop, aligning the projection on both the shooter, and the target. It is manual, and it needs to be positioned each time, for a new evaluation, requiring a relatively steady hand holding it… LOL!

I also made myself a periscope, out of cardboard, with a woman's compact mirror (Wal-Mart cosmetics department) attached at a 45-degree angle at the base. This allows me to place it in front of the firing figure, looking down into it, to see what the firing figure would see. To be honest, the crafted periscope is the very best tool for LOS that I've used to date, 30+ years running -- no batteries, no laser which can permanently burn my/other's retinas if I am careless. Cheers!

I have a money making plan here. I'll write an app that hashes your image and uses that as the seed for a random number generator to determine "visible" and "obscured"
