I did use cork tiles for a hexagon terrain system many years ago. While it did work tolerably it was very heavy and was superseded by Hexon II. Furthermore at the time of my cork hex system, cork tiles were commonplace and cheep. They are not so popular and hence are much more expensive and of course 3D printing has arrived, all of which now means cork is not on my list of useful materials.

Very good for terrain base boards and to cut up for buildings as they were quite thick, but I have not seen them in DIY stores for a bit. Useful stuff. UK based.

I have used cork tiles for many years as bases for my buildings, walls, hedges etc. I haven't seen them in DIY shops for some time, but you can still get packs at reasonable prices online.

Some examples are here:

I used to use Cork tiles in the past as a quick and easy solution, but I've long since moved onto better looking and more durable things.

Used them also previously (that terrain dedicated now to my 15mm AWI kit).

Planning on using some 3" round cork coasters for an upcoming basing project now – as AFV group (platoon) stands.

I have used thin cork coasters as village templates for King of the Battlefield eighteenth century games.

We play using 15mm figures, but our buildings are 6mm placed loosely on the templates. This helps to keep the ground scale within acceptable limits.

I played Hohenfriedburg years ago. I bought IKEA placemats and cut them to the shape of the towns and villages in scale. Again, moveable buildings were placed on top.

Have fun.
