This ought to prompt some discussion!

"It's always a matter of when—not if—when wokeness comes to claim your hobby. It has toppled virtually every franchise and IP, defacing and vandalizing all with the same calls for diversity, inclusion, and representation."

"Put simply, diversity and inclusion are humiliation rituals. If they happen to fit in the established canon, then so much better. It's plausible deniability to gaslight those who don't know any better. But as the internet autists rush to say whether the representation does or does not fit in the lore, the rest of us know the real reason behind these changes.

It's to flex.

It's to say this thing that you love is no longer yours. It's ours, and there is nothing you can do about it. And it isn't a mistake or a well-meaning push for a broader audience. It's to cause outrage. It's to scorn the people the Left despise. It's civilizational trolling, and it's done because not only won't they face consequences, they know they'll be rewarded for it."

doc mcb20 Apr 2024 7:33 a.m. PST

"Putting it simply, wokeness is an intersectional political coalition that is anti-Christian, anti-white, anti-masculine, and anti-hierarchical in nature. It will take whatever outlying form to denigrate those concepts, whether that be a feminist shitlib, an immigration advocate, or an oppressed trans person. Wokeness is the dissolution of all ingrained distinction, cultural identity, and social norm into what the Right affectionally refers to as gay space communism. It is the homogenization of the human race into the same brownish diversity cast, and if you want any proof of that, just look at what Hollywood produces."

"Warhammer 40k was resistant to the Left for so long because it was a universe that (unintentionally) founded itself in very basic truths of mankind. And it presented those truths in such an obvious way that it was next to impossible for the Left to deny. It is difficult for the woke to corrupt a property that outright acknowledges how the woke corrupts IPs to begin with.

Shall we raise a few examples? In 40k, there are the Chaos Gods which are the Sci-Fi equivalent of the devil. The woke can try to depict heroic gay romances and represent obese persons, but to anyone with common sense, these narratives ultimately twist themselves into the corruptions of Slaanesh and Nurgle (two of the Chaos Gods). In outlining the existence of a hell, the Right now has the vocabulary (and the canon) to section off Leftist controlled portions of the narrative.

You might have an atheistic character, but when the God-Emperor of Mankind is raising up saints, that character goes from a noble objector to a skeptic fool. When you create a definite good and evil in a fictional universe, then it becomes ever more difficult for the Left to pervert. And the more unabashed you portray these truths, the more tenuous the Left's depictions become.

The Left can easily get away with perverting Star Wars because Star Wars is a quasi Buddhist Sci-Fi adventure. But what happens if there were definable universal constants that went against Leftist interpretations? What if the Jedi Order were explicitly defined as a male only society and that to deviate from this was heresy? Yes, the Left can go and insert their narratives, but there is now plausible deniability from the Right."

It's Saturday and you woke up (no pun intended) and decided you wanted to be offended. All a little Woke wouldn't you say?

Are you what you're trying to defend my wargaming from?

PS. I take it you're not British and don't know much about the origins of GW and Warhammer? Or is this one of those things where self-identifying Conservative guardians don't need to have read the book/seen the film/played the game to know it's filth?

I hope it isn't true, I'm just asking question, freedom of speech.

Silurian20 Apr 2024 9:10 a.m. PST

Hehe. Someone jumped at the 40K tweek to leap onto their soapbox and preach their political er, viewpoint!
And what a jumbled word salad it is. Good to know theres such a conspiratorial and organized mass of woke lefties within the toy community seeking to… frankly, I'm not sure what exactly.
Oh boy, some people certainly do get their knickers in a twist.

doc mcb20 Apr 2024 10:15 a.m. PST

Of course GW has already been gender and race swapped. By AI before it was scorned into retreat.

Oh doc MCB Deleted by Moderator … don't worry, WH40K has not abandoned Christianity. It never embraced it in the first place.

Who did you think was the Christian faction – the followers of the God Emperor, The followers of Chaos, The Tyranids perhaps, or maybe the soulless Necrons?

Really lmao evil grin

"It's always a matter of when—not if—when wokeness comes to claim your hobby."
Absolutely! That's why I stopped collecting State Quarters and whittling my own chess pieces! The Wokies were everywhere! They wanted to take my sharp knives away from me! They forced the Mint to issue quarters honoring WOMEN!!! Can you imagine?

Too late – they're letting in women to Chess too!!!!

And wouldn't you know it the woke left chess haters have made The Queen the most powerful piece on the board.

When will this madness stop? I mean, really, when will this bizarre madness stop?

So, there are female Space Marines now?

Given the 40K style, can I assume they'll wear armored short shorts and low-cut breastplates to show off their… well, breasts?

Seems kind of lame.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP20 Apr 2024 11:36 a.m. PST

Sisters of Battle – introduced late 90s, don't really think the 30 years counts as a recent addition. A female Space Marine Chapter – why not, it's hardly an innovation?

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP20 Apr 2024 11:42 a.m. PST

And since – and I feel silly pointing this out – it is all made up and has changed and changed again over the decades a new change is pretty much business as usual. There were squats, then there never were and then they existed again.

That level of upset is just beyond belief. IMHO.

Nope. Not "lame" at all

If I remember correctly, back in the distant RT days there was at least one genuine female Space Marine, before the Sisters of Battle.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP20 Apr 2024 3:18 p.m. PST

Id forgotten – but, yup, two female space marines in 1987.

"If you know your history then you know where you're coming from…."

The content of that woke GW rant is starting to look pretty stupid….

epturner20 Apr 2024 4:56 p.m. PST

Sooo…..where does that put the guy that painted his Space Marine army in "Hello Kitty" colours?

Saw that a few years ago on the Interwebs and fell off my chair laughing.

Always thought I'd paint one up as a Mummers Fancy Brigade.

Must we? This is not history. This is barely science fiction, and to the degree it is, power armor, like the six-shooter, is a great equalizer.

Anyway, this is GW. No one compels you to play, and if you don't like an army/faction/whatever, wait five years. It may very well go away.

This is so unintentionally hilarious. This person has NO IDEA what 40K has always been about…

Damon.

Imagine the vaporing when they discover there are few (or none!) female Space Orks… ;-)

Dagwood21 Apr 2024 5:37 a.m. PST

I thought half the space orcs were female, you just couldn't tell them apart from the males …

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP22 Apr 2024 2:20 a.m. PST

So, I think we can all agree that this kerfuffle about a change in GW "lore" is just a concocted click-bait/conspiracy theory drama. When you get to the point when the Daily Fail is reporting on "wokery in GW" as if it is some existential threat to Western culture you know you've arrived in laughable territory. Wait a few months and they'll dig up RPGs=satanism again.

GW lore is in any case a bizarre concept, since the lore changes every time a new model is released….there were no Necrons until someone went to see Terminator and thought "that'd be cool in Warhammer 40k"….there really was a time when the Necron threat was just one figure… No one sat down in the early 1980s and mapped out the whole and final background to the Warhammer history, it was all cobbled together from whatever looked cool at the time ("Alien is cool – let's have some aliens and we'll call them Tyranids) on the basis that space is really, really big and there will always be a corner of space that a new previously undescribed threat can come from. When the miniatures have been sculpted.

In that context – the potential for female spacemarines are no different to a redesigned Rhino, or the way the design of the dark eldar keeps changing. Or the way Spacemarines just keep getting taller…..

Louis XIV22 Apr 2024 12:55 p.m. PST

To determine if there are female space marines (or Adeptus Custodes) we need to decide how we define female.

If we use "member of the species that produces offspring" i don't know how that works when marines are grown.

If we use 2 X chromosomes, do the genetic modifications even have X and Y chromosomes.

As for Sisters of Battle, I always thought GW made them to satisfy having females in power armor under Title IX

Zephyr122 Apr 2024 9:51 p.m. PST

"…need to decide how we define female.

Well, since SM's have organs that can be harvested to create more SM's, I'd imagine they'd qualify… ;-)

Also female Imperial Guard in the 80s

Cke1st28 Apr 2024 6:24 p.m. PST

Space Marines: We have Space Wolves, Black Templars, Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Deathwatch. The Emperor requires no greater diversity than this.

Eldar: If you can't tell our sexes apart, then you deserve to die, mon-keigh. And if you can tell our sexes apart, then we'll kill you to preserve our secrets.

Chaos Marines: Follow Slaanesh, who loves all genders equally. Or follow Nurgle, who will turn you into a brand-new gender in no time!

Orks: Our pronouns are WAAAAGH!

T'au: We accept all races and genders, biological or perceived, as long as they can shoot straight.

Tyranids: "Gender?" What is this concept? Did someone misspell "Genestealer?"

Necrons: we self-identify as dead.
