I have painted a 15mm Aztec army 3D printed in resin. I am publishing various videos on YouTube about the process, with the intention of remembering how I did it, and also to share with other fans. In this video I discuss the bulk of the army, the Yaoquizqueh warriors, who were from the popular social class and made up the vast majority of the army.

Really really nice – particularly for 15mm

Those are incredible especially for 15mm! Painting those shield designs perfectly at that scale is amazing.

Incredible work for any scale.

Thank you all very much. I have to say that the figures have a lot of detail in relief which helps to paint, especially the shields where you can just follow the volumes instead of drawing freehand.
In this army I found the feathers much more challenging, to be honest, as the sculpting of feathers is traditionally more symbolic than realistic. Let me explain; in reality, seen at 20m or so to match the scale, real feathers don't have any veins, let alone flutter in the wind like cloth. But in order to show that they are feathers in the sculpture, it is customary to include nerves that in real life can only be seen by holding the feather very, very close, a few centimetres away, and they are given a movement as if they are soft, to give the idea of the softness that is mentally associated with feathers, when in reality large feathers are in general surprisingly rigid. This dissociation between the sphere of reality and the convention of representation makes the feathers of the miniatures look like lettuce leaves, depending on how you paint them, to be honest. I hope I'm over it!

Wow. Just gorgeous brush work. Having detailed mini's helps, but it doesn't paint the figures to that level of detail for you…

I know. I am an army painter, and I don't paint anything like that (read, hack, only has to look good at 3-5 feet distance, on the tabletop…). LOL! Beautiful color schemes. Genuinely fine work, from this hack painter's POV. Cheers!
