…The Navy published a photo on its social media platforms Tuesday of a man firing a rifle that had optics mounted backwards, the lens covers appear to possibly be closed, his arm was chicken winged out, the butt of the gun riding up his shoulder and the selector switch appeared to possibly be flipped to full auto at an unclear target in the water…

From the scrambled eggs on the bill of his cap he's a naval officer? In which case it may be genuine.

He is a naval officer. Looks a Commander (O5). Can't tell if its photoshopped or not.

I see folks making fun of the "chicken wing" stance, it depends on the weapon -- no pistol grip on a Garand. "Chicken Wing" is what my Dad learned in the Army and that's what he taught as a shooting stance on an M1 Garand. Heavy bstard with a helluva kick. I don't think you need to use that stance with the M-16 variant in the photo.

Was always taught to avoid chicken wing with the M16/M4

He is wearing a Command at Sea pin on the right breast, visible below his elbow. That indicates he is currently Captain of a ship.

He's a ship driver -- not a trigger puller, so he is going to "chicken wing" just like almost everyone else. I've seen plenty of guys have the butt stock riding high on their shoulder as well. Other than the editing, none of this concerns me in the slightest.

Photoshopped or not … Not really a good way to fire that weapon. I know we didn't use that "method" with the M16 … Mentioned in the article that the sight was photoshopped as it is backwards. Not real sure about that …
