Charles kept a Corp off the field at Wagram. I suspect this was to prevent the French crossing the Danube into his rear during the battle. Does anyone have details of French forces on the west bank that could have done so. |

@ Essling Many thanks, that's more than enough information for a few scenarios and if I ever get well enough, an excuse to paint some Bavarians. |

That has the makings of a real interesting "what if." |

John Gill's book "With Eagles to Glory" is a detailed look at all of Napoleon's German allies during the 1809 campaign. A lot of those allies were not at Wagram and were off guarding flanks and such. Gill goes into a LOT of detail of exactly what those forces were doing. |

Agree Gill's books are excellent – "With Eagles to Glory", the 1809 trilogy "Thunder on the Danube" & the standalone "Znaim". All are a must for the library if interested in the 1809 campaign. They are very well footnoted allowing cross-checking & follow up. My only minor criticism concerns the maps as personally in some cases I would have liked larger versions (but that may be me after having viewed so many maps produced in the 1800s/early 1900s). |
