"An auction this month at Woolley and Wallis, in Salinsbury, southern England, offered buyers a series of handwritten records of the food and drink orders of Napoleon and his entourage during his subsequent captivity the defeat at Waterloo in 1815. The buyer spent more than 800 pounds sterling to purchase these sheets which testify to the comfort of the conditions of imprisonment of the fallen emperor.


Reading these notes tells us that far from being discouraged, Napoleon received 10 bottles of Clairet and a precious bottle of champagne every day…"
