* Vladimir Putin deployed MiG 31 Foxhound Fighters, bombers and spy craft
* It is thought to be the first time state-of-the-art Foxhounds have been used
* Defence Secretary Michael Fallon warned Putin that 'this is not a game'

It is a "game" until somebody gets hurt.

The Typhoon is much more advanced than the MiG-31 Foxhound, which is an interceptor and lacks the maneuverability of the Eurofighter.

True, in terms of close-in dogfighting, but the Mig-31 has a very capable, long-range radar, long-range missiles, and datalink, so they can probably fire their AAMs without even having to turn on their radar, enhancing the element of surprise.

Another option would be that one aircraft in their unit can detect the target(s) with its radar, and then pass that info along to others, to surprise their opponents.

Swedish aircraft have this capability too.

Not sure if the Typhoons do, but if not, they should.

According to Wiki Typhoons have a Link16 datalink.

There is an upgrade option for the radar to be upgraded to an electronically steered phased-array radar, but that won't be around until 2016-17.
