Not sure why they refer to them as action figures. They are 54mm scale plastic toy soldiers, made by BMC. Been around at least ten years, maybe longer.

Was there a bridge at Gettysburg?

Didn't you know? And a river ran through it. :-)

Sorry, bridges did not figure in the battle at Gettysburg. Your classic American Civil War stone bridge is the Burnside Bridge at Antietam.

The river and the bridge are not in the BMC Gettysburg set.

I like the second picture, some of the guns are pretty droopy…

Sure wish they would make those fences in plastic for 28mm.

Yes, the fences are great.

Sad they are not painted.

It's never too late to start.

And just to keep the weirdness going, I got a large number of painted versions of these figures, but in 100mm scale! I think they used to be sold as souvenirs at Gettysburg. I don't know which line came first, but the sculpting is clearly the same. Inasmuch as they are already painted, I guess I really don't need to change anything, but I am a real dyed-in-the-wool gamer and can't resist: some of the Federals will become zouaves, while the artillery crews on both sides will be given the proper red trim. I had to find my own artillery pirces, but there are actually a large number of model guns out there that work.

The only real problem is the lack of cavalry. The sole mounted figures are two generals (Lee and Meade, assume). Fortunately, cavalry often played little role in the bigger battles, but it would still be nice to have some. Unless I can locate some alternatives, I guess the two sides will have to be happy with regiments of converted generals!
