Just wondering if anyone does 10-12mm modern military?

Who does 15's if there isn't much in the way of 10/12mm?

Thanks!

Redroom05 Apr 2014 4:03 p.m. PST

Quite a few in 15mm (peter Pig, QRF, Rebelminis to name a few)

Khurasan Miniatures is going to/has released some armor and troops for Arab/Israel wars. Of course the web site is down now….

Minifigs manufactures a 12mm modern line that has plenty of vehicles and infantry.

Thanks all

Minifigs it is!!

Mako1105 Apr 2014 5:39 p.m. PST

I'm planning/hoping to.

Working on creating a force or two in both scales.

I really like the 12mm stuff, especially the prepainted/assembled plastics, which are superb, but sadly there are few, if any APCs and IFVs for most nations, especially the opposition.

Not sure if the Minifigs infantry are compatible in size to the Pendraken minis, but the latter look quite nice, and the former are decent.

Sadly, some vehicles I'd like to see, even from Minifigs are MIA, but hopefully, if enough people express interest in them, they'll make them as well.

Acctingman,

As mentioned, there's Minifigs, Pendraken, and you can check my blog for pics of a lot of the modern stuff.

This is an early post, so I've repainted and re-based a lot of the stuff, but it's a good place to start:

If you feel like digging around on the blog some more, here's a bunch of stuff not in that post at all:

Pendraken French and Vietminh (Indochina):

Comparison of Pendraken and Minifigs sizes:

Pendraken Aussies from Vietnam range, painted for Bush War/AK-47 type stuff:

Pendraken Brits from the Falklands range:

Pendraken Argentinians from the Falklands range:

Pendraken Brit and Argentinian Special Forces, painted as irregulars/cartel/pirates:

A bunch of different troops that were in the original post but have been redone/finished:

I hope this helps.

There are other manufactures;-

PG models pg-models.co.uk/armour They do good pewter casings of British stuff.

Aotrs Shipyard on shapeways (a few models in 3D print not available elsewhere) Boxer, Fenneck, some M113's etc. You can get models done (well a cadds model anyway) but at £50.00 GBP for the Cadds model its not cheap. Not too bad if you then need lots of models.

Pendragon 10mm inf are really 12mm figs but 10mm vehicals.

For figures I use simplified 12mm prone figures done on a 3D printer. Manily I like prone and they are quick to paint. They match OK with minifigs.

You can still get the of the pre-painted Dragon, Can Do, Trumpeter and World tank museum models on Evil-Bay. They are great and are real 1:144 scale.

Cherno05 Apr 2014 7:47 p.m. PST

There's a whole world of 1/144 model kits mainly from Japanese manufacturers, check out his blog:

Thanks all

I'm thinking I might actually go 1/285 GHQ. Detail is nice, I can spend more and have more on the table and I'm not really using terrain….using map boards, so I don't need the larger scales.

Mako1105 Apr 2014 9:06 p.m. PST

Yea, there are a few niche companies, but at $30 USD – $36 USD+ for a single vehicle, they're not affordable to many of us, if you need more than one.

GHQ is superb, and with their detailing, they are the benchmark for quality, until you get up into the nicer 15mm and 20mm scale models.

UshCha06 Apr 2014 1:37 a.m. PST

Just a warning on GHQ. Personaly I found them unuseable. The detail is undoubted but the guns were so soft it was a pain to straighten them and they were not up to play without bending. Skytex of old with pin guns were less accurate but after the game they were still looked vaugely like guns. It may be they have got better in the last 2 or three years but get a few first to see what you think.

dwight shrute06 Apr 2014 5:02 a.m. PST

Skytrex also do a 10mm modern range .

Cold Steel06 Apr 2014 5:47 a.m. PST

Skytrex is advertised as 10 mm (1/160), but is actually 1/200 scale. They don't match anyone else's lines.

I had the same problem with GHQ infantry as UshCha. Poor/almost invisible infantry was the reason I left micro-armor.

I have almost completed my desired WW2 collection (yeah, right) and am working up the list for my first 10 mm modern bulk purchase. I plan on doing the early 80s, before the wide spread use of the super tanks. Since Minifigs is the only manufacturer with a complete line, they will be the default line of choice. Now to find the best prices.

Mako1106 Apr 2014 10:03 a.m. PST

I like the larger 10mm – 12mm scale, but for the metal vehicles, the quality of many is very poor compared to GHQ and CinC (now Pfc.), which I find disturbing.

Yes the 6mm guns can be a bit bendy, so you just have to learn not to touch them, and to store them properly.

Of course, if you have ham-handed players, that can be problematic. Perhaps the old school teacher technique of using a ruler for discipline might be useful in those cases.

PG models pg-models.co.uk/armour They do good pewter casings of British stuff.

Strewth! They are not cheap! £12.50 GBP for a Challenger I and £7.80 GBP for the Abbot. 15mm stuff is about half the price!

Mako1107 Apr 2014 1:14 a.m. PST

In some cases, depending.

The Challenger is, to borrow a phrase from the UK, "right out", but the FV432s, Scimitars, and Scorpions aren't too horrendously expensive, given their quality, based upon the pics shown.

I wouldn't want to buy a whole company of them, but might be able to field a FV432 platoon, and a small recce platoon as well.

Not sure if the prices include the dreaded VAT also, so that might help reduce things a little for those on the other side of the pond.

Of course, international shipping will kick that up again, and more, so…….

My wish is for some of the prepainted, plastic companies to release a nice range of Cold War IFVs and APCs, but I won't hold my breath.

Who does 15's if there isn't much in the way of 10/12mm?

We do a large range of 15mm, both post war and modern

Fred Cartwright07 Apr 2014 8:26 a.m. PST

In some cases, depending.

I thought they came ready painted at first. I figured 2-3 quid for the model and the rest was the paint job. Bearing in mind they have quite a lot less metal in them than the equivalent 15mm.

UshCha07 Apr 2014 1:02 p.m. PST

There is quite a range of 12mm and growing. Nothing wrong with 15mm but in percieved volume (how much bigger or smaller it looks) its almost twice the size and that is if 15mm is 15mm not 18 which some are. I think 12mm is great but then I also have 25mm which is better for detailed skirmish in close urban with 3 story buildings.

We may have a way to reduce some of the 3D printed stuff as we may have a cheaper print supplier.

Long term you have to look at what you want. Buying 15mm when you wanted 12mm in the end is a waste of money. They (12mm) are smaller and for some games that is important. We are currently fighting a challengeing game in 12mm. It would not be practical in 15mm and for us 6mm and 10mm are too small. 12mm is just on the sweet spot for the games we play at "real" battalion level.

Fred Cartwright07 Apr 2014 1:39 p.m. PST

Who sells the 3D printed 1/144 stuff? Apparently there is quite a bit out there, but never seen it advertised.

UshCha07 Apr 2014 10:22 p.m. PST

This is a site with SI FI and 1:144 real stuff;

Search wider on the site and there may be more not be Shipyards.
