So I need a pattern for a force field bridge. They are kinda popular in Star Wars but those are usually blank. I have green and blue fluorescent acrylic that will look amazing as the walkway but I want to pattern it with something. Anyone have an ideas? I'm leaning towards something Tronish but I have not found anything I like yet. |

Hex are kinda the go to scifi thing. Oh and 45 degree or 30 degree notches :) |

This might work.

Halo Wars has a nice looking energy bridge too

You mean this one?
I like it. Might need to simplify it a bit but thats what I was looking for. |

Jon, I think you are on the right track. I like the idea
Can I make a suggestion? Make it so the bridge 'ends' are a static metal (or whatever
) and make it so the acrylic colored 'bridge' can be removable (aka lift it out so it can be 'on' or 'off'). My two pence.

That is the plan. The bases will be styrene/mdf with a shelf that the bridge fits in. Probably a foot bridge 40mm and a vehicle at 80mm wide. A bit big for 15mm but this will be part of the kickstarter. |

I actually watched Tron: Legacy again last night. Kind of forgot how amazing the visuals in that film were. Would be awesome to get some Tron inspired terrain. |

I need to just buy that movie. It's probably a business expense at this point :) I have been toying with the idea but I'm just not sure it has a big enough market to justify all the work. |

You could just borrow it from me

So I banged this out today. It will probably be the first stretch goal for the KS.
I added optional details for the sides. A hatch for maintenance, a vent, and a control panel. Nothing like turning the bridge off with your enemy on top of it :) This should fit over the JR 28mm river pieces. 4.5" span.
Its also conveniently sized for 15mm tanks :)

Hang about? I need 5 stretch goals by Monday! :) Oh and I need to prep for Nashcon, reconfigure the website to take orders for 80" by 60" game mats, and maybe just maybe sleep before August. This will be part of the kickstarter for 28mm scifi buildings. I have 4 basic building out being painted along with some comm gear that should scale well to 15mm/10mm. Even 6mm. I'm designing it so that the lower scale guys have some stuff they can use at the lower levels and still be able to get add-ons like this that will work for 15mm. |

How about with a lot of hexagons, like the top image? That would be pretty cool too |
CorSecEng | 14 May 2013 2:03 p.m. PST |
I forgot that most of the 15mm guys probably have not seen the comm gear. I posted it in 28mm scifi but never here.
Probably going to have some boxes, crates, and more random stuff that might work for 15mm as well. Oh and forgive my bad paint job :) The production models are being pro painted. |

What's the timeline in regards to it launching? |
CorSecEng | 14 May 2013 7:57 p.m. PST |
In theory
Monday. In reality it could be the 29th. If I get the buildings back from the painter by Saturday, Then I'll be filming/editing the video and working on the artwork/banner ads. I'm still way behind stretch goal design as well. So I may delay because of that. I'm trying to wrap it up and clear the orders by Historicon. I will have the buildings at Nashcon and Bayou wars for people to check out in person. |

@CorSecEng – that was the bridge and you certainly did it justice. Very nice work! |

Did you consider making a slot rather than a shelf? I think that it would look better without being squared off at either end. |
CorSecEng | 15 May 2013 6:18 p.m. PST |
I was trying to make it so that the bridge can be lifted mid game without having to move the bases. I'll have to put some thought into it. I could drop another piece of styrene on top as an optional bit. I've also been toying with the idea of a walkway made of emitters strung together on acrylic rods. Then I can make the walkway out of acrylic so its removable. I've also been pitched the idea of stackable apartment complexes. Similar to what was in the Dread movie. Kinda like a corridor system but vertical. All the rooms connect to each other and sit on top of each other. It would be neat to have bridges between them at several different levels. BTW this KS has been delayed. There was a mix up in shipping. If you accept a package for someone
How about you make sure they get it the next day
Not 5 days later. |

What are the internal measurements of the bases? The way you have the acrylic etching laid out is is just asking for LEDs to be mounted at either end (by the home electrician of course). |
CorSecEng | 16 May 2013 6:33 a.m. PST |
It shouldn't be that hard to add a few LEDs. The lip is about 3mm deep. So a 2mm LED should fit in there. It is 5 or 6mm wide so you can put them facing vertical as well. The base is 66mm by maybe 100mm. The bridge is 60mm wide. I'm not sure if it would add much. The bridge is quite fluorescent in normal room light. The engineer in me is already thinking about the affects of RGB LEDs and a timer. You might get it to shimmer cool by either pulsing the leds quickly or fading between two colors. |
Borathan | 02 Jun 2013 5:39 p.m. PST |
With the acrylic bridges, if you add the details by engraving the underside, you could also mount LED's in the ends that point up to it in a way to catch the grooves and add a brightness to the pattern that way. |
