I made a trip to the local Dollar Tree store this past weekend and found some neat terrain items. One of these were bags of Easter grass made out of a natural fibrous material that makes great grass tufts for figure bases. I also used some to make thatched roofs. It comes in four colors: green, off white, purple, and pink, and each bag offers a lifetime supply of tufts. I picked up a bag each of the green, off white and purple. And applied some to some figure bases and am quite pleased with the outcome.

Huh. Not bad.

Just pinch, cut, glue the end, let dry, then glue to base?

Chris Palmer25 Feb 2013 2:35 p.m. PST

Yep! That easy. grin
Actually, I leave out the first "Let dry". I just pinch, cut, put a dab of glue on the end I'm not "pinching", then stick on base, carefully spread out a bit with a toothpick, then let dry.

What about the thatched roof? How'd you do that one?

First I spread a circle of Tacky glue around the outer top of the hut's roof, and then cut small half inch clumps of the grass and prressed it into the glue; working my way around the circle. I then put a circle of glue around the inner circle part of the hut's roof, and repeated the process, making another ring of thatch, slightly overlapping the outer ring.

I got some, thanks Chris. These Easter "grass" are not flat cellophane or paper but made of a twine like materisl. Enough to last a very long time for $1. USD You pay $4 USD for small bag of field grass in hobby store.

Thanks for the lead.
