I have posted some pictures from a recent game of Bayonet and Ideology hosted and set up by Trebian.

More of my pics: P.B.Eye-Candy SCW

Very nice pics Phil. It's a relief to see destroyed buildings on the SCW tabletop in place of the more usual vision of Spain that borders on a 'David Winters timeshare'.

Trebians view on BAIT was interesting and not unexpected to be honest.

Between you, you've prompted me to get my 15mm SCW back out and on the table. So thanks for that!

Cheers

Thanks, Mark …

It's an interesting conundrum … Spain looking Spanish or Spain looking war-torn …

I think Treb would have found the game less clunky had we applied the variations we customarily apply to PBI (which is basically the same game) to smooth it out – however, for evaluation purposes he wanted to go 'by the book'

To be fair on the mechanisms, however, I ought to add that the Maroccan commander piled his men into frontal assaults in the opening turns – exposing them to pointblank defensive fire (and immediate counter attacks should they make any gains) before getting any supporting troops into position.

That led to a very bloody game and a predictable result.

Thanks for the feedback

Phil

Many of the most famous photos of Guadalajara show only ruins. The conundrum is a bit like gaming Normandy. Perfect buildings or as they were in reality, shattered shells.

I was rushed off PC this morning, so just wanted to add that to be fair to BAIT and Trebs review, you can't judge a set of rules by a single game. And Treb more or less says this himself.

It's fun following your gaming.

For this game I wanted a "Belchite" look, or a University City feel. When playing games at a higher scale I use "Hovels" 15mm Spanish buildings (as you'll see on the blog if you look back at previous SCW postings), but they just look too small for a low level action.

We'll be scrabbling around in the ruins for the next game as well.

Alas Phil forgot his camera, so you only have my pictures.

I think we got more out of the system this time (though the limitations remain) …

Here's some gratuitous eye candy being lined up for a future game:

Where did you source the Morgan?

The Morgan was a gift from Tim Gow over at the Megablitz and More blog.

Re the Morgan. It came in a packet with the brand name of Cararama and the website of hongwell.com.
