Are there any paint guides for Luftwaffe Field Divisions? did their uniforms closely mirror those of the fallshirmjager? or another arm of the wehrmacht? |

Their equipment would mirror the Heer, but the uniform was a blue-grey; Vallejo make a Luftwaffe uniform colour. They also used smocks with Splinter B Camo and the Tan and Water Camo. Equipment might be blue-grey with belts in brown, or standard Field Grey with black leather. A mix of gear would suit late war Luftwaffe Field troops. Helmets vary from the M35, M40 and M42. For figures just use standard Grenadier and/or SS figures (without the SS insignia, of course). |

The camo garment worn by the LFD wasn't the same as the pullover smock worn by the Heer & SS. it was a full size jacket. Once the Heer took over responsibility for the LFD they pretty much wore same thing as Heer troops. |

Generally it would appear they did'nt wear the para helmet, using a standard infantry heer helmet often with camo cover and Zaltban.

Concord #6527 "Luftwaffe Field and Flak Divisions" by Robert Kirchubel & Dmitriy Zgonnik has plenty of information, photos and several color plates. |

Helmets were very commonly painted dark yellow in all formations. They also often added green and brown camouflage. I've even seen MG-42s with an all-over camouflage job. Here are some soldiers of 16. Feld-Division (L) on patrol near Colombelles Steelworks in early July 1944:
And some more soldiers of the same division (note the NCO/officer at the back has a very pale helmet – probably dark yellow. The lad with the MP-40 also looks to have a light-coloured helmet – possibly painted yellow but partly worn off?):
Rank badges and waffenfarbe piping were jaeger green:
Note that strictly speaking, these formations ceased to be 'Luftwaffe-Feld-Divisionen' in November 1943, when they were switched from Luftwaffe to Heer control. They became 'Feld-Divisionen (L)' from that point forth. Their constituent regiments also dropped the 'Luftwaffe' title and instead got the '(L)' suffix. The 'Infanterie' regiments also became 'Jaeger' at the same time. So for example, 16. Luftwaffe-Feld-Division became 16. Feld-Division (L), while Luftwaffe-Infanterie-Regiment 31 became Jaeger-Regiment 31 (L) and Luftwaffe-Artillerie-Regiment 16 became Artillerie-Regiment 16 (L). |

Check out the Flames of War website, as I believe they have a paint guide for Luftwaffe Feld Divisions. |
