This is from the 2nd Annual Comedy Awards:

Robin Williams, who was honored as a stand-up icon at the ceremony, revealed his passion for a less participatory pastime. "I collect military miniatures. I've never talked about that before," he told us. His collection includes different types, such as painted St. Petersburg miniatures. "There must be some blind Russian woman who went blind doing these little, tiny Louis XIV miniatures," Williams said. "They're wonderful. And I send them to Jonathan Winters, so we share that." The comic didn't specify how many he has, but says he avoids bidding at auctions. "[If] I'm bidding, then we'll get into Hoarders."

I see the next Historicon Guest of Honor.

He'll be the perfect addition to a future Gnome Wars game.

Mick A03 May 2012 11:34 a.m. PST

He used to have an Eldar army, that was a couple of years ago…

Imagine Williams and Crystal doing voice acting for Ork Boss and Nobs, gretchin etc.

If it's Williams, you'd have to follow it with "what the heck did you just say?" constantly…

For those of you so inclined, Rod Stewart is an accomplished model railroader. His stuff has even appeared in Model Railroader magazine.

Rod Stewart is an accomplished model railroader

So I understand. Any pictures, as I've never been able to find any on the WWW?

Garand03 May 2012 2:13 p.m. PST

While we're on the subject, Karl Logan (guitarist for the metal band Manowar) is a model builder, and features frequently in FineScale Modeler. Pretty minor celeb, but one I was surprised about…

I wish I had known this when I met him in Afghanistan. He came to our base during Christmas 2010 on a USO tour. I got a picture with him and Lance Armstrong, Lewis Black, and a couple others, which was pretty cool. I wish I could've talked wargaming shop with him!!!

Harlan Ellison is a collector, also. He was at one of our Los Angeles Miniaturists meetings a few months ago. Showed off a beautiful Indian war elephunt that Robin Williams had given him.

You will notice that these people generally very wisely don't publicize their hobby too often.

Back in 1992 he Robin Williams brought his son into the (former) Santa Monica, CA Games Workshop and I had the opportunity to trounce his flamboyantly fabulous Eldar with my Space Wolves. It had to be the most entertaining game of 40K I ever played. The shop manager told me that he came in from time to time and that Billy Williams had a Yiddish Space Ork army.

Baggy Sausage04 May 2012 7:47 a.m. PST

One of us! One of us!

In addition to serving as Historicon Guest of Honor, Robin Williams can also scream "Good Morning Vietnam!" at the start of one of Buck Surdu's 'Nam games.

That I'd pay to see.

John the OFM04 May 2012 5:57 p.m. PST

I actually painted some Ral Partha British 17th lancers for Robin Williams,

GASP! An historical gamer????

Mister X04 May 2012 8:49 p.m. PST

I hope he games Vietnam, WW2 as well as 40k. We could use another player in our tiny club of 2.

clifblkskull07 May 2012 6:11 a.m. PST
