Hey all, I got a bug (pun intended!) to do a small project. Along with the predator models I just bought I'm looking for some good aliens in 28mm as well as something close to the APC in the Aliens Film? I feel like someone has done one of these in 28mm before.

Copplestone had some good space marine stand ins so I picked those up but looking for more, especially anything similar to say, the smart guns.

You might want to check out the Defiance games US marines that were just released.

For aliens the best thing I've seen in 28mm is the old Tyranid hormagaunts, the metal ones. Their heads look just like aliens and their bodies are probably just different enough for them not to get sued.

They are small for 28mm alines though but would work perfectly for 20mm guys.

If you are willing to do 15mm instead, Khurasan literally has all the angles covered:

Colonials Marines

Federal Defense Force Exterminators

Xenomorphs

Space Demon Assault Warriors

The iconic APC

Exterminators Caiman APC

The Queen

Space Demon Queen

and even a suitable powerloader:

Hercules Loader

And even drone guns, civilians, specials weapons for the Marines, and cramped corridors.

…I am still looking forward to the Defiance Games 'bugs'… although I suspect they me be more 'buggish' and less 'genestealerish'…. waiting patiently….

Cherno17 Apr 2012 1:07 p.m. PST

In case you haven't seen it on the other thread ;)

Right here.

It occurs to me that a good deal of scalejacking goes on here on TMP: ask explicitly for 28mm, and get an enormous post on 15mm. Makes perfect sense.

Grabula-definitely check out Cherno's link. It has everything you might want in regard to 28mm lines for use in Aliens.

Insomniac17 Apr 2012 2:12 p.m. PST

This vehicle is close…but has 6 wheels:

Yeah, Insomniac and Cherno nailed it. I'd just add that Genetealers are a decent choice too. I'm doing it in true 25mm and 15mm. True 25mm I'm using APC's from the old Gzg line. Infantry are from Denizen.

Thanks,

John

Someone makes aftermarket conversion bits for 40k figures and has 'Alien' type heads for GW Tyranid figures.

I'll see if I can find the link. I just use tyranid gaunts and warriors…

Jake

Edit: The heads I mention are from Chapter House Studios: link

Denizen has a line of colonial marines in true 25mm.

@Von Teug

It's more of a matter of being willing to be flexible. Sometimes it's easier to find what you're looking for in other scales.

Though, for the record, I should have mentioned Genestealers too.

wolfgangbrooks17 Apr 2012 4:47 p.m. PST

Yeah, Denizen are pretty spot on for the Colonial Marines, and are pretty cheap. Though they might be too slight for your tastes.

Also check out Woodbine Design through Gripping Beast, he did another dead on set.

Kryomek Marines are also a decent fit for Colonial Marines.

Thanks,

John

Also consider trying EM4 for marines (particularly with smartgun) and the automated sentry gun. OOP and pricy used Aliens prepaints from the horrorclix range (two boxes available, a queen with one regular alien and a box of seven regular aliens). The Defiance Games marines aren't a close match to the film.

Check out Frothers and Lead Adventure Forum for some inspiring threads.

Cheers,
Andy

I have the original boxed sets of Leading Edge Aliens Marines. Nice, if a little chubby, perhaps.

Being the one responsible for the Aliens review linked to above, here's one on Colonial Marines:

The closest I know of are from Fenryll.

Nice on both articles Manatic!
thumbs up

Thanks,

thanks for the help so far guys. Definitley interested in 28mm for this project. It's designed to be somehwat quick, I'll be doing about 10-12 Predators, around 15 marines and around 20 or so aliens.

Cherno's link is good except that almost all the laiens listed are OOP lol. I was hoping to pick up some of the horrorclix sice a few years ago I was seeing them everywhere. It appears that other than the Queen set, everything is else is miserably expensive so that's out. for aliens i'm leaning towards just doing head conversions for genestealer/nid scratch builds. Would take slightly longer than I wanted but might be fun.

Nice score on the Scotia Grendel vehicle but it occurs to me it might be easy enough to build my own 28mm APC. Would make sense since I'm doing all this scratchbuilding already.

I thinkt he gripping beast minis might be the ebst colocnial marines. I like Denizen stuff but are they true 25mm or larger?

pretty much the best there is for marines are the em4 ones – still, to this day – shows you how well they were thought out and sculpted. in 15mm, well, now you're spoilt for choice, with Khurusan imo being the best match for both aliens and marines.

Grabula20 Apr 2012 8:42 a.m. PST

Manatic, appreciate the comparison pic! I like the denizen minis best but gripping beast has more characters so i may go with them.

palaeoemrus22 Apr 2012 7:18 p.m. PST

If you are in the US, Miniaturemarket has several Alien Queen Horrorclix boxes for $13 USD a pop.

Grabula22 Apr 2012 9:02 p.m. PST

yeah, I managed to pick up tw of them. For some reason while the aliens and predators collections are anywhere frm 70-130$ a pop, the alien queen set is noly about 15$

pierresystal27 Apr 2012 3:16 p.m. PST

Hasslefree and EM4 metal
