link Don't know if this is common knowledge or not but the rules and a General article adding historical gladiator types and some extras all on a disc for $5. USD I'm in the UK and the total was £6.00 GBP inc p&p. Never played these before but I've heard a lot of good things about them. I'm willing to give them a shot for that price. |

Friend of mine has them (bought them in the 60s or 70s or something) & he likes them |

Hi, the game came out in 1981 so it may be a different game you're thinking of. I actually own this one. Haven't played in a long time though. Thanks, John |

This was a good game; lots of combat with a bit of rpg (not too much) if I remember correctly. Sadly I lost my original copy in a yard-sale "accident" while away at college, along with my copy of Tobruk by AH. |

No, it's the old AH game that used to be boxed. They offer a load of other AH titles on disc, some with maps also available printed to save you the nother of printing them yourself. These are obviously more expensive. Edit: They've got Tobruk as well. |

I have SEIGE OF JERUSALEM but would not mind some more copies of the map

Avlon Hill's Gladiator is one of the best games I ever played with just the right balance of complexity. It provides for light, medium and heavy gladiator types with comparative movement penalties and armour possibilities. The movement is broken down into set piece combinations which are written before simultaneous execution. The interesting feature is in an eight turn sequence, you plot which turns you move and which you rest in advance – one sequence at a time. This enables light types to manouvre around there heavier oponents. I'll be tranfering this system directly to miniatures – it is hex based and frontage is important. It provides for Retarius also but not animals. Hope this helps. |

Rules for animals were provided later on, in an issue of The General

How do they compare to the other popular rules sets out there, e.g. RS/BS, Morituri, etc.? |
