Khaki makes for a wonderful burlap tone.

NWE theatre

NWE still covers a lot of territory, but I think as long as you choose a "dusty dirt" color you'll be fine.

I'd go with 929 Light Brown, or 913 Yellow Ochre for a dustier look. Either way, I'd give the sandbags a darker wash and then lighten the final color considerably with heavy drybrushing.

Good link, Warlord, and exactly the technique I use, except for the specific colors.

Sand bags look like . . . . dirt.

I generally start with 1) an earth brown or a darker khaki; 2) follow this with an dark brown ink wash (burnt umber acrylic ink mixed with future floor wax/water (50/50)); and finish off with a 'dusting'.

'dusting' is accomplished by taking a beige color and thinning it moderately until it is translucent. I then dry brush this 'dusting preparation' on the sand bags over the rest repeatedly until the desired effect is attained (I generally work on several pieces at once so the first is dry by the time I finish with the last).

Best sand bags ever!

In Vallejo terms: paint with 880 Khaki Grey then dry-brush with 104 Stone Grey and a touch of 125 Desert Yellow.

At our WW1 reenactment site we use burlap sandbags. They're a medium brown colour and over time the enviroment fades them to a grey colour. Hope this helps.
