I've bought myself a bunch of 2mm miniatures from Irregular, but their casting is very
umm
irregular. When the casting is crisp, I can see surprising amounts of detail on these tiny little men (and animals). On the other hand, some of the minis aren't much more than unrecognizable blobs of metal. Maybe it's just my luck, but unfortunately the crisp castings are few and far between, with the vast majority of my order requiring massive and delicate surgery before resembling the figures they're supposed to be. Are there any other manufacturers of 2mm miniatures? Or is Irregular the only one around? |

I believe Brigade Models is the only other one with 2mm land forces link Or at least that seems to be the concensus on the Aeronef/Land Ironclad group which usually uses 2mm. |

AFAIK they are all that is available in ancients. Brigade has a few but Im not sure they are convertible to ancients. I would suggest that instead of surgery you paint the detail you feel is missing. |

@The Beast Rabban: Now that's an interesting suggestion
how well do you think these WW2/modern infantry would "convert" to, say, Greeks or Romans? I wouldn't really mind "not exactly the right era", but if they're obviously holding firearms then I assume no amount of paint would make them seem like an ancient army. |

Sorry, I was looking at two different boards at once, and didn't catch the 'ancients' part! I clearly need to be in bed right now. |

Oh
I was hoping that it could work :( The details on O8's 2mm infantry sure look exquisite, but I don't think they could be converted into ancients. If only they made some ancient armies

Well O8 is doing ACW, so you might be able to get cavalry for ancients that way. |

Extensive surgery is often rquired on Irregular figures, whatever the scale. I've made my fingers bleed trimming the huge blobs of flash off the bases of their 15s. The 2mms aren't too bad, even the flash on the bases is bearable. Irregulars always look a bit blobby in the raw lead, easily solved by an inkwash, they paint up well. In such a small scale I'd go with impressionist painting the whole way though rather than worry too much about lots of detail. |

O8 = Oddzial Ozmy, maker of 3mm figures. |

O8 is Oddzial Osmy (Polish for something like 8th Army I believe). TMP link But O8 makes 3mm figures, not 2mm. They should be 50% larger than Irregular's 2mm stuff. So may be unusable with 2mm. |

I have both and they are not compatible
unless you simply don't care that it looks daft! :)

OK, then I was wrong on ALL counts! Thanks, AB, I wasn't sure how much difference there would be between O8 & 2mm. When the difference of 1mm = a 50% scale increase, it's hard to say if, with sizing a bit off either way, they might end up the same size. I have never seen Irregular in person. |
