The IDF apparently captured a garbage truck that had been converted to fire Kassam missiles: picture The sign on the door supposedly reads "In case of traffic violations, please contact The Palestinian Authority." Wyatt |

Wow. Is this for real? Either way, pretty interesting! |
Top Gun Ace | 02 May 2010 9:52 p.m. PST |
Well, at least we know who owns it. Not very bright of them

That's so cool! Pretty ingenious too. Desperate people will do desperate things. Dan |

Not sure if those are rocket launchers, would a light vehicle like that be able to handle rockets being fired from the tip tray? |

The captions look like Thai? |
Martin Rapier | 03 May 2010 2:54 a.m. PST |
The IRA used to like mounting mortars on the back of lorries. They were 'use once' devices fired unattended, and I don't think platform stability and accuracy was their main concern
|
vaughan | 03 May 2010 3:19 a.m. PST |
"The captions look like Thai?" The script is Hebrew which fits with IDF. |
Jemima Fawr | 03 May 2010 3:57 a.m. PST |
Reminds me of the South African Valkyri MRL – it has a canvas tilt over the rocket tubes to make it look from a distance like an ordinary Unimog/Samil 100. |
Black Bull | 03 May 2010 6:03 a.m. PST |
Only had a quick look but the telephone number on the truck doesn't seem to fit with Paleestine |
Tsunami | 03 May 2010 6:38 a.m. PST |
So, where do I get a 1/285th Garbage Truck? |
vaughan | 03 May 2010 6:38 a.m. PST |
052 is an Iraeli mobile phone code. |
Black Bull | 03 May 2010 6:45 a.m. PST |
52 is Cellcom why the 0 ? |
Black Bull | 03 May 2010 6:51 a.m. PST |
Found where the 0 fits in, strange to have that number on the truck as Cellcoms website give no coverage for West Bank and Gaza |
CmdrKiley | 03 May 2010 11:09 a.m. PST |
Does the phone number really have to real? I mean who's going to call up The Palestinian Authority to complain that one of their trucks is acting suspiciously anyways. That's kind of like calling the mafia to say you think you saw some of their guys dumping some bodies in the lake. |
Bunkermeister | 03 May 2010 11:43 a.m. PST |
The point of the missile launcher is to create terror. The accuracy and damage is secondary. So using a tipper dump truck trash truck is just fine for that role. Mike "Bunkermeister" Creek bunkermeister.blogspot.com |

Not sure if those are rocket launchers, would a light vehicle like that be able to handle rockets being fired from the tip tray? Well, the rockets are supposed to be pretty recoilless in the first place, so it should not put too big load on the frame. |
Farstar | 03 May 2010 1:54 p.m. PST |
The exhaust still has to go somewhere, and if they plan to use the truck this way more than once, melting down the back end is not useful. |
Top Gun Ace | 03 May 2010 9:00 p.m. PST |
Regardless of whether there is a number on it, or not, it's pretty clear who will be using it, or planned to. |
jdginaz | 04 May 2010 4:05 p.m. PST |
The exhaust goes out the open back end, how is that a problem? |
Number6 | 04 May 2010 7:32 p.m. PST |
More propaganda! It's obviously just a portable goat barbecue. And why not just call the number and find out? |
Kaoschallenged | 04 May 2010 7:49 p.m. PST |
I posted about this on another site and one of the posters there went off on me and stated "It is dishonest to post false informations". He claims its not "Palestinian" but Iraqi. I did not say it was but it was "supposed" to have been captured by the IDF. My question is if it is Iraqi why the PA number? Robert |
Number6 | 04 May 2010 11:06 p.m. PST |
Another pic of the truck here. link And a video of similar trucks in action on page 3 and 4. |
Griefbringer | 05 May 2010 9:48 a.m. PST |
And why not just call the number and find out? Might need to know the country code first
|
Black Bull | 05 May 2010 12:18 p.m. PST |
Robert, its not a PA number judging by No6's photo link i don't think it was captured by Israeli Army or Police uniforms are wrong. |
Kaoschallenged | 05 May 2010 2:15 p.m. PST |
From a couple of other sites its stated that it was captured by Iraqi Police in Basra in 2008.I have yet to find anything official about it. Here is a thread from 2008 discussing it. Check out the YouTube link. It shows one firing in the first few seconds of the video. Robert link |
