Not that Im cheap or anything ..

I usually prefer less base so minis fit in to surroundings. Still they might fall over ?

At risk of stating the obvious, it rather depends on what figures you're using….

20mm (/72nd) : 1 p
25mm : 2p

1p for everything.

Half price!

All the best,

John.

About sums it up. However, plenty of 28mm figures will fit nicely onto a 1p, just not those in 'heroic' poses.

Midpoint16 Jun 2009 2:17 p.m. PST

28s don't balance very well on a 1p. If the pose has arms/weapons perpendicular to the torso this is doubly true. Tuppences for me all the way.

chronoglide16 Jun 2009 2:22 p.m. PST

i'm a big fan of tuppences too……

But don't forget to use the nice, new shiney ones … they are made from metal that is attracted to magnets. This makes them much easier to store if, like me, you use magnetic sheets in your carry boxes.

Pound coins are better than both 1p and 2p pieces. Two pound coins for heavy weapons teams.

;-)

You can smile – but my wife's Limited Edition Charles and Diana Wedding Five Pound Coin is under one of my command stands.

1p for me, with Big Men/characters on 2ps.

Martin Rapier17 Jun 2009 12:40 a.m. PST

1p for everything including 28m unless they are in a a particularly daft pose.

Euro 5c coins are slightly smaller and work well for some smaller figs (15mm) but are harder to come by in the UK;-)

For moderns periods with fire arms I tend to use 1p coins unless as said the base of the figure is too big then would make an exception of a 2p (which suits the model)

For other sword and shield periods I tend to use 2ps (or have in the past) owing to the greater surface area and some protection from the mini falling over e.g. separate shields and weapons.

1Ps also make it better for skirmish games/troops in open order for use in/on terrain etc

2P or not 2P that is the question

Chronoglide: that remark is like the silent dog whistle…

I prefer to use 2p coins for 28mm sci-fi and 1p for 15mm. Half pennies used to be great for 15mm but the cheapskate Royal Mint decided that there were not enough wargamers to warrant making them. I'm fairly sure it is illegal to deface the coinage though…

Bob,

The defacing coinage seems to come up a lot but that law was repealed some time ago. If not all those machines where you mangle a penny into the museum's or whatever logo would be in a lot of trouble.

Big Martin17 Jun 2009 3:31 a.m. PST

Mainly 1ps but I've got a (dwindling) bag of the old 1/2p coins I use for some smaller stuff (little dinosaurs, cats, dogs etc.) and most of my 28mm swashbucklers are on 2ps as the somewhat "expansive" fencing poses just don't fit on 1p coins.

Cardinal Hawkwood17 Jun 2009 3:49 p.m. PST

sheer luxury..in australia we dont have 1 or 2 c coins anymore and there is a move to get rid of the 5c

Sane Max18 Jun 2009 12:09 a.m. PST

yeah, but the Oz Dollar is only worth 1p anyway, isn't it?

I always use 2p coins for 28mm, as they're bigger and allow some space for texturing, static grass etc.

I always use them heads up as that side is flatter.

"I always use them heads up as that side is flatter."

I always carefully ensure that HM The Queen is facing down and her royal features are not defaced with glue, flock etc.

Same here Martin

Just mounted my Rebel Mini 15mm Earth Force Marines on Mr. Lincoln, 25 times. I put them all on face up, as that's considered lucky to pick them up that way. Need something bigger for the sniper teams tho.

I use washers for most of my 25mm. Home Depo sells bags of 8 for less than a $1us.

Steve123 Jun 2009 7:20 a.m. PST

Which is fine but that would get 40 x 2 pence coins (very rough exchange rate~)

Last Hussar25 Jun 2009 2:20 p.m. PST

2p- its an inch/25mm (and weights the bottom of GW plastic LOTW figures just right).

I still say we should threaten the government- tax breaks for wargamers or we unbase all those figures and flood the market with money.

The Cuban27 Sep 2009 3:06 p.m. PST

Me too Martin, it's important.
