Jay Arnold's harder than it ought to be trivia quiz.

The first poster to answer all twenty questions correctly wins a prize. I have quite a bit of lead needing a good home that I will never use. Wife wants me to get rid of it, but I figured we could have some fun while we're at it. Post your answers directly to this thread.

Ready? Good luck!

2. What unit used the "Golden Cross" patch in WWII?

3. What unit uses it now?

4. What neighborhood/suburb of Sarajevo was the site of the international village during the '84 Winter Olympics?

5. Name the town that was the objective of 2 Para when they were sent to secure the southern flank of the British forces during their march across East Falkland.

6. In what town/battle during the Texan War of Independence did the Texians display a flag that said "Come and Take It?"

7. Who used the call sign "Red 2" during the Battle of Yavin?

11. What was the chalenge and password used by US Airborne forces during the initial Normandy landings on D-1?

12. Name, in chronological order, the Metallica albums featuring Cliff Burton as bassist.

13. What is the common nickname for the Russian-made 12.7 mm machinegun mounted on tanks and other vehicles?

Isn't this really a Google test? How quickly can you google and compile answers to the bits you don't know (about 18 of them for me)?

Jay Arnold15 May 2007 12:12 p.m. PST

Great Hall Games sez:

Perhaps. Some will be harder to find than others. Really, though, can we really tell if somone is using google or not on something like this anyway? It's just for fun and maybe you'll get a pack of figures for it.

The more you know off hand the quicker you'll be anyway. It just so happens that knowldege in a dierse array of subjects will help more than merely having swift web-fu.

Remember, it's trivia.

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP15 May 2007 1:49 p.m. PST

Oh, and obviously 14th is right with Goose Green; I'm thinking too far ahead with Stanley…. ;-)

Jay Arnold15 May 2007 1:57 p.m. PST

Point of clarification on #1, by brass, I mean shell casings, not links.

14th Brooklyn15 May 2007 1:57 p.m. PST

Let´s see Dom… we have two different answers.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP15 May 2007 1:59 p.m. PST

Downwards, then, if memory serves – yes, at least one answer that I haven't Googled…. ;-)

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP15 May 2007 2:02 p.m. PST

PS – Many blatantly were Googled, and I'm in Blighty anyway, so have disqualified myself from the prize….

Dom, who's confident in 11 and especially 3….

14th Brooklyn15 May 2007 2:04 p.m. PST

Then the answer to #1 is down

14th Brooklyn15 May 2007 2:06 p.m. PST

Hey Dom,

Cheers,

Burkhard

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP15 May 2007 2:10 p.m. PST

My Google-fu needed the workout; I'd have gotten about 7 or 8 unaided…..

14th Brooklyn15 May 2007 3:42 p.m. PST

I was lost on 10, 12, 13 and 14.

Should have Googled #3

And I am really looking forward to the ruling on #11

Cheers,

Burkhard

P.S.: Dom, is there any news on my LCA decals?

Wyatt the Odd Fezian15 May 2007 4:18 p.m. PST

I didn't see anything that required the winner to be in the US, but I'll use different sources to answer – and cite them

11. What was the chalenge and password used by US Airborne forces during the initial Normandy landings on D-1?

It wasn't "Flash" and "Thunder" (the proper order) as those were on D-Day itself and it changed daily. I believe it was actually a small steel "cricket" noise maker.

12. Name, in chronological order, the Metallica albums featuring Cliff Burton as bassist.

Kill 'Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets

Wyatt,
Don't forget FM 100-2-3 (The Soviet Army Troops, Organization, and Equipment) (I have the complete set)

Charles

Jay Arnold15 May 2007 7:21 p.m. PST

Burkhard, Dom and Wyatt all win, as far as I'm concerned. I'll IM you each individually so you may select your prizes.

The "official" answers and explanation, where needed:

1. Down. I have a scar on my right forearm where a hot shell casing had found a place to rest after getting past my jacket cuff while on the range.

2. 33rd Infantry Division wore the Golden Cross. They were an Illinois National Guard Division and fought in the campaign to retake Luzon from the Japanese.

3. 33rd Brigade Combat Team now wears the Golden Cross. It consists of two Infantry battalions, a Cavalry battalion, and artillery battalion and a service and support battalion. As a member of C Co, 2/130 Inf, I wear the Golden Cross proudly.

4. I was looking for Dorbinje, but specifically it was the site of residence for the international press corps. Mojmilo and Kosevo are both accepted as well.

5. Goose Green. I use this as my handle when playing online games as well.

6. Battle of Gonzales. I have a replica of the flag that I fly in front of my house.

7. My copy of Star Wars has Wedge Antilles as Red 2.

8. PCP, Angel Dust, Peace, Devil's Dust, etc. It's a schedule II drug and is referred to as a dissociative anesthetic.

9. 21 each way.

10. d4, d6, d8, d10 and d12

11. Pathfinders were on the ground on D-1, so I'll count that. But yeah, Thunder – Flash and the cricket are both good enough for my purposes.

12. Kill 'Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
Sadly, Cliff died in a bus accident while touring in Europe. The last good Metallica album, in my opinion was And Justice for All.

13. Dushka was what I was looking for.

14. 100-2-1, -2, & -3. I'm looking to score copies of these if anyone has 'em.

15. Squad Attack

16. USS North Carolina

17. 4/4 wheels/auxiliary rollers

18. Ragusa. I have a dream of living in Dubrovnik after I win the lottery. Beautiful city. I had the chance to visit there twice when I was in Bosnia.

19. 1 – Illinois

20. Shooter Jennings

So, a few minor quibbles aside, it looks to me that the aforementioned winners have won themselves a prize. I don't recall limiting winners to the US. Check your IM inbox, youse guys.

Wyatt the Odd Fezian15 May 2007 8:09 p.m. PST

Woohoo! Thank you Jay!

And thank you for your service as well.

I'm now looking up the various goodies you've listed to see which one interests me the most.

Wyatt

Wyatt the Odd Fezian15 May 2007 8:15 p.m. PST

Oh, I forgot to mention that in order to not rely on Google alone or simply crib answers from Dom and Burkhard, I was annoying several friends for answers via e-mail. Gordon Rottman is probably still wondering why I asked him about the M-240 and Ashley was with the SAS and took a bullet outside of Goose Green. I probably could've bugged AECurtiss for the FM answer, but those came up pretty quickly on globalsecurity.

So, thanks to those guys as well.

1st Prize (actually 1st pick) goes to Burkhard for answering first and he wins a pack of Black Tree Designs late war British Infantry.

2nd Prize goes to Dom and he wins a pack of GZG Islamic Fed Infantry.

3rd Prize goes to Wyatt and he wins a pack of Battlefront Italian Bersaglieri Co HQ.

Congratulations to our winners. I have more packs to give away (what I got in the Christmas exchange from last year), so keep an eye for another quiz.

Great,

thanks Jay! It was real fun taking part and I think I might do something like this myself in the near future!

Thanks,

Burkhard
