I can't find any 1/72 figures for this unit so was wondering if anyone has converted any other figures.

The most suitable seems to me to be the Hat French Dragoon. They aren't great sculpts but have the right helmet, jackboots and a simple uniform. Others I have considered have been the British light dragoons or French Guard Chasseurs but they all have belts across the body and it would be messy to carve them off.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I used the Italeri French Dragoons.

I don't know if they are still in production, but have you tried Frying pan and blanket miniatures?
I remember them having AWI miniatures.

0ldYeller,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of the Italeri figures but discounted them as they thought they were too good. By that I mean that I would have had to carve off a lot of detail while the Hat figures would be easier.

Also thanks for the suggestion. Frying Pan seem to have disappeared as a manufacturer and I can't find any photos. I get the impression that they are closer to 18mm than 1/72. They would also be pretty expensive in the UK with postage, customs charges, taxes etc.

Newline Designs are from the UK, and are metal which can be converted if you have that ability.

I converted one of the Hat French dragoons as a test and I'm pleased with the results. I cut off the carbine, the shoulder belts and all the detail on the tunic. I built up the helmet peak and horse hair with acrylic putty and the rest was all paint. I feel the horse is a bit big for the figure but it will do. Thanks for your suggestions.
