I know there are a great many gunfighter rules out there that are very good for bank robberies or the OK corral shoot out type of game. I was wondering what is out there for small, but not tiny, cavalry battles. A cavalry patrol ambushed in the Black hills, a small supply column attacked or a farmstead hit while the cavalry is there. I have looked at Pony Wars but that is designed for 15mm or smaller I want something that will work for 28mm. thanks in advance. |

We plan to use a modified version of Bolt-Action to do these fights in 54mm. |

Pony Wars will work just fine in 28mm. The Men Who Would Be Kings, one of the "Rampant" style games from Osprey would fit the bill perfectly. I have a Plains Wars variant from Simon Walker as well. PM me or mark@scalecreep.com and I'll send you a copy. |

Not a variant of TSATF, but a stand alone set -- "Bugles, Boots, n Saddles" can be ordered from Sergeants 3. It is the second set at this link -- sergeants3.com/19.html Jim |

Lots of titles to choose from, but if you want historical realism, ONLY "Yellow Ribbon" represents the Plains and Southwestern tribes as they actually fought. The link thoughtfully provided above by 79thPA is the way to go. TVAG |

I have the Yellow Ribbon rules. I have always heard how it shows how Indians fought and they can vary in how they respond to certain situations. However, I just haven't found that. There are specific things they will do if certain things happen that aren't that much different then what Indians do in other rules. Maybe it is just me but I don't see it. |

The Heliograph pubished a TSATF variant called The Tomahawk and the Flame. You can contact me directly at burker1 (at) aol (dot) com if you would like to order the back issues that have the rules |

I second The Tomahawk and the Flame. I took part in the extensive play testing and it plays very historically. Casualties are generally light and the Indians basically "nickel and dime" the Pony Soldiers who have to look after their wounded while the Indians do not. There is a wealth of historic information in the body of the rules. I keep asking the author, Hans von Stockhausen, to publish a book of his scenarios that we used for the play tests. |
